Cate Shaw's singing talent masters a fresh combination of Latin style, a serving of contemporary, a pinch of blues, and some jazz numbers for good measure.
Cate has been singing all her life, her talent developed early as one half of a duo with her brother, Thomas Fitzgerald. At sixteen she was offered a part in the musical ‘Hair’ with Marcia Hines. She recorded for the ABC in Sydney, doing radio work with Radio National and ABC FM radio, her voice featuring in various radio serials. As a session singer for Armstrong's Studios, Cate performed with artists of the callibre of Rick Springfield, Robbie Porter and Ian 'Molly' Meldrum. She appeared on teenage television pop shows, and performed on a cruise ship and throughout Europe
Life commitments then put Cate's singing career on hold until a sudden realisation that she needed music back in her life, and in keeping with her motto 'Wake up! Don't take your dreams to your grave', she woke up. Soon after Cate was introduced to music teacher Ingrid James who helped her “discover her voice again” and with the support of local musical director Stewart Turner, Cate's band Latin Blue was formed. Their debut CD was recorded with Garry Smith of Pinkhouse Productions & in 2005, they played their first gig at Sofi´s Lobby lounge at the Sofitel Hotel, a return performance soon followed the successful launch.
In 2005 Cate featured in the vocals of 'Shower Songs' a sound art work created for ABC Radio National. She has since performed both solo & with Latin Blue at venues & events throughout Brisbane, including The Press Club, The Brisbane Sebel, The Bank (formerly Belushi's), with Ian Maurice at The Samford Jazz Festival, at Maggie Black's Jazz Bar, Fête de la Musique, "Jazz on Sunday's" at The Ginger Factory, Yandina, and with Peter Vance at the Brisbane Jazz Club.
The successful combination that began Cate's career reunited in 2008, with Thomas Fitzgerald, producing Cate's recording of a vocal version of one of his compositions 'Chika'. Cate's version of Chika recently won a “Highly Commended Judges Award” out of 5000 entries in the national song competition “Musicoz”, the song is available on iTunes and CD Baby.
'3 days' featuring vocals by Cate was part of the ABC Radio National program "Peggy's Hothouse" in 2009.
Cate is available for bookings for corporate and private functions.
